About the Mentor Program

The higher education sector in Australia and Aotearoa has been shaped by various changes and policy developments over recent years. This has created a need for decision-makers and leaders representing the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities to adapt to new teaching and research environments, policy settings, funding regimes and take broader interdisciplinary approaches.

DASSH is committed to supporting our members to continue to effectively lead and advocate for the disciplines comprising the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities. In 2025 we are launching our Mentorship Program designed to foster inter-disciplinary and cross-institutional relationships with an aim to develop leadership capacities.

The DASSH Mentorship Program creates opportunities where leaders can support and learn from one another. Our intention is to match mentors and mentees together to support a mutually valuable experience that addresses key expectations, goals and motivations of both.

The Mentor Program will take place from June to December 2025. We recommend that mentors and mentees meet for four one-hour sessions over that period.

Mentor applications are open to experienced leaders who occupy senior positions including Pro-Vice Chancellors, Executive Deans and Deans.

Mentors provide guidance and professional development in specific focus areas to mentees who are upcoming leaders in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities across Australia and Aotearoa.

For the pilot Mentorship Program, mentees will be considered via nomination from each university’s DASSH Council member.
