Join us for an online consultation session on Thursday 25 July at 3:30-4:30pm where we will discuss Jobs and Skills Australia’s new National Skills Taxonomy and the Australian government’s proposed Needs-based Funding system.
The government is working through a number of recommendations from the Universities Accord at the moment and we are focussed on using this opportunity to shape the direction of these important initiatives.
Jobs and Skills Australia has released a Discussion Paper on the new National Skills Taxonomy which you can read here.
The National Skills Taxonomy will replace the existing Australian Skills Classification. JSA is seeking feedback around the design, governance and maintenance of the taxonomy which will play a significant role in the advice it provides to government, the Department of Education and the Australian Tertiary Education Commission. This is an important foundational policy consultation and an opportunity to help identify and position the skills and capabilities associated with humanities, arts and social sciences disciplines.
The government has also released a Consultation Paper on the proposed Needs-based Funding system which you can read here.
The new system will provide funding for under-represented students, including low-SES and Indigenous students as well as those living with a disability and studying at a regional university. This was one of our key recommendations throughout the Universities Accord consultation process. The government is seeking feedback on how best this recommendation can be implemented.
This consultation will be used as the basis for our formal written submissions which are due by Friday 9 August. If you are unable to attend, we welcome your written feedback, so please feel free to email us by Friday 26 July.
