Phil Honeywood has been the Chief Executive Officer of the International Education Association of Australia since 2011. In that role, he advocates for and empowers Australia’s international education community, including 37 universities and a suite of other education providers. Phil joins the DASSH conference to provide valuable, data-driven knowledge of international education opportunities and challenges, a review of key issues in our region, and insight to the future of international education
in this period of disruption.

Prior to joining the IEAA, Phil was a Member of the Victorian Parliament from 1988 to 2006, during which time he served as Minister for Tertiary Education, Training and Multicultural Affairs, and Deputy Leader of the Opposition. He is now the co convenor of the National Council for International Education, Chairman of the Roundtable of international Education Peak Body CEOs, and Deputy Chairman of the Tuition Protection Services Board.

Previously, he was a Member of the Victorian State Parliament (1988–2006), Minister for Tertiary Education, Training and Multicultural Affairs (1996–1999) and Deputy Leader of the Opposition (2002–2006). Since retiring from politics, Phil worked at Stott’s Business College and Cambridge International College. Phil is a member of the New Colombo Plan Steering Committee, the Co-Convener of the National Council for International Education, and Chairman of the Roundtable of International Education Peak Body CEOs. He has previously served two terms as a member of Swinburne University of Technology’s Governing Council. Phil has an Honours degree from the Australian National University in Political Science and Japanese.
